Wordpress Mac App
Hi there! My website has pulled up over 1000 instances of Unknown file in WordPress core. All of them are files that include “._” at the beginning of the filename or folder name.
When I view the file, here is what I see: Mac OS X 2ATTRFFcom.apple.quarantineq [plus some numbers and characters I have redacted]
This seems like the same issue here, so I think I can delete these files after backup. My only question is if I should be concerned about deleting files that don’t seem to correspond to an actual file in my File Manager. For example, WordFence found the file “._comments-popup.php” in the WP core, but I don’t have any file called “comments-popup.php” in that same folder. Thank you so much for your help!
Hey @kristengunther,
Please do definitely take a backup before removing any files just_in_case.
This is a WordPress Core file. The fact that it has “._” means it has been disabled, possibly a hosting back up. What does concern me is that there isn’t an active comments-popup.php file. Can you please share the path where you’ve found the disabled file? It should be in wp-includes > theme-compat.
Please let me know.
Thanks,
Gerroald
Hey @kristengunther,
My apologies, I thought I had responded to you. Refx nexus crack for mac.
I did speak with the developers about this, and they believe you’re correct in the reference to the other thread you shared. Here’s part of our conversation.
AFAIK ._<filename> files are OSX Resource Fork files ( = metadata) viewed on a different filesystem than OSX one. They could have copied the website from an OSX-made archive file, or copied them uploading the website via the Finder (IIRC).
And they agree with this assessment you shared.
So, I believe it’s okay to remove them. But please do make sure to have a backup just_in_case.
Please let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
Gerroald
A desktop app that gives WordPress a permanent home in your taskbar. Download the app: Also available for: Mac OS X (10.9+) Windows (7+) Linux (.tar.gz) Linux (.deb). When my friend asked for help, I was on Mac OS X. Not wanting to restart my system and logging into my Windows 8 (and again I needed to install “PuTTY”) or Fedora 21, I just used the Mac OS X terminal and “ssh” command. $ ssh root@yourserver.provider.domain. Or with IP address $ ssh root@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.
